Even the early vintages display an element of youthfulness while still delivering extraordinary structure and impressive dark fruit.

Joseph Roty Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire 2009 $42
100% Pinot Noir from vines over 30 years old. Slightly caramelized strawberry fruit on the nose - immediately appealing in its primary fruit simplicity on attack, sweet, floral, and ripe. The palate is similarly perfumed yet has a mineral edge, well-integrated, which adds definition and hints towards its Gevrey-Chambertin origins.

Offers aromas of spicy red and black fruit, black pepper and sweet spice and savory notes. On the palate, taste layers of juicy plum, dried cherry, blackberry and cassis with a slightly brambly character and hints of cocoa and leather.

Ferrer Bobet Vinyes Velles 2009 $75
The 2009 Vinyes Velles is a blend of two-thirds Carinena and one-third Garnacha. It is bestowed with a glorious, floral bouquet with very pure scents of cassis, blueberry and violets. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. It is taut on the entry, quite linear and then fans out nicely with sappy dark berry, cassis and allspice. (92 WA)

100% tempranillo. Natural bouquet of dark berries, burnt toast, and singed leather. The palate is very well-balanced, with lithe tannins that caress the mouth. The oak is seamlessly integrated towards the lingering, supple finish. (91 WA)

This Super Tuscan is the perfect overachiever. It offers up lovely, bright acidity that adds freshness and focus on the palate along with hints of mocha, a deep cherry and red berry core, and a wonderfully silky finish of plum.

Vinchio-Vaglio Serra "Le Nocche" Grignolino d'Asti 2011 $36
Light ruby-red color with orange overtones, it has a light and floral bouquet. The taste is dry, slightly tannic, bitter and long-lasting. Pairs wonderfully with charcuterie.

Deep, ruby red with orange hues. Intense with tertiary notes of rose, leather, tobacco and subtle hints of violet. Ample and embracing with prevailing impressions of a persistent finish.

Allegrini Palazzo della Torre 2007 $45.50
Produced using the ripasso method. It has a delicious wild berry perfume, with flavor of raisins. The grapes Corvina, Rondinella, and Sangiovese follow two different paths: 70% of the grapes are vinified immediately after the harvest, the remaining percentage is dried until the end of December. At this point, the wine ferments again with the dried grapes.
